Puppy Dreams - bedtime short stories

Puppy Dreams

by Becky Ross Michael

Its time for Bedtime short story:

The smell of a cool autumn afternoon accompanied Dad as he entered the kitchen. Mom began unloading the bags of groceries that he had placed on the counter. She said, "Yum! This will be perfect for dinner."

Sister went through the luggage in the hopes of finding a surprise. But Brother was as motionless as a statue as he watched his father. "Um, Dad… Why is your jacket swaying in that manner?

Dad grinned and took off his coat. His shirt's pocket had a small, black creature that was nestled inside. Initially speechless, everyone just stared.

At last, Mom responded, "You didn't.

Brother guessed, "A puppy."

The wiggly ball of fur was removed from Dad's pocket and placed on the dark kitchen mat.

Sister exclaimed in delight, "Oooh!" The little creature froze at the sound of her shrill voice.

Mom reached out to take up the little dog and said, "I think you've terrified him. A moist rug patch was exposed from below him when she moved.

Dad said, "Oops." "He was bleeding on the floor. It appears that we need to start potty training the child. I couldn't hold back. Puppy sales were being conducted from a pickup truck's back.

in front of the business. That or go to the shelter were the only options. This little kid almost jumped into my arms as I approached.

Arms.”

Mom smiled and added, "I can just picture."

Who is he named after? Brother enquired.

"You and your sister should sort that out."

The afternoon was spent having fun. In the kitchen, Mom set up a feeding and watering station. Dad set up a cosy, brand-new pet bed in a living room nook. To prevent further accidents, they each took turns leading the puppy outdoors.

While they were watching the puppy sleep, Mom said, "Chester might be a wonderful name."

Brother remarked, "Blackie would fit him because of his hue."

We had a dog named Roamer when I was a kid, Dad said. That name might be his, I suppose.

Later, Mom said, "It's time for bed." The kids were dozing off as the sky had grown dark.

What happened to the puppy? Brother enquired. Can he join me in bed?

"No, me!" Sister begged.

Dad claimed, "I haven't purchased him a kennel for sleeping. But I don't believe this man should be running free at night. There are too many potential accidents.

That's for sure, Mom said. The garage has a sizable, empty box. He wouldn't be free to walk the house, but it would be open on top for air. We can set it up right here because the living room is the warmest space.

The kids were disappointed, but they agreed and went off to get ready for night.

"Not me!" asked her sister. The father said, "I didn't buy him a kennel to sleep in. But I don't think this guy should be free to roam at night. There are too many chances of an accident."

"That's true," Mama said. I have a lot of empty boxes in my garage. He can't walk freely in the house, but the top is open to let air in. The living room is the warmest room, so you can put him here.
